Team Mindcrafters Daily Updates - 5-29-16

Parents,

Testing - Students put forth a terrific effort on the state tests this week!  Most of the kids seemed pretty positive about how they did.  I think this reflects on how well they did learning the curriculum this year.  Way to go, students!

Spring Pictures - Coming home today are your child's spring pictures.  This is a reminder that these pictures were not preordered.  You are welcome to purchase some (or all) of them, or simply return them to school with your child.

Today was our last day with Miss Schnee.  It was sad for us to let her go, but we are very thankful for the time we had together and excited for her and her new teaching job in South Carolina.  Attached are a couple class pictures with her.

Reminders:
  • Return permission slips for inflatables (Fun Fest)
  • Permission slips for Talent show are due Wednesday
  • Book orders for Right to Read Week
  • Return Spring pictures or Spring picture orders
Upcoming events:
  • May 10-12 - Muffins with Moms
  • May 11- FTMS visitation
  • May 13 - Fun Fest

Parents,

Testing - Tomorrow is our LAST state test!  The students have been working very hard, and we are very proud of their efforts.  One more to go:)

Spring Pictures - Coming home today are your child's spring pictures.  This is a reminder that these pictures were not preordered.  You are welcome to purchase some (or all) of them, or simply return them to school with your child.

Tonight's Homework - Students have been working on review crossword puzzles using their DIY notebooks we have been making this year in Social Studies.  I would like for students to complete these for homework, but for some students, this may require more time than we typically expect for homework.  If they don't finish, please just write a quick note on their crossword letting me know they worked for at least 30 minutes.

Parents,

Electric Toys.  We are learning about electrical circuits in Science class.  We will do an activity called Toy Take-Apart, during which students will take apart a simple battery powered children's toy.  If you have any toys you can donate for this project, it would be greatly appreciated.  The toys will be disassembled and may not be usable after the project, so please only send toys that the family does not want anymore.  Please send these in by April 22. If you are not able to send any toys, that's okay, too!

Chipotle. Dine Out fundraiser is tonight!

AWAKE shirts.  Wear them tomorrow!

Book orders.  Due tomorrow!

ELA Part 2.  Tomorrow is Part 2 of the ELA test. Here are a few things you can do to help assure your child does his/her best on the test:
  • Be sure that your child gets plenty of rest each night before the testing
  • In the morning, be sure your child has a healthy, nourishing breakfast.
  • Try to send your child off to school with a positive word encouraging him/her to try their best.
  • Many parents have also sent a letter of encouragement for their child to open before the tests. (You'd be amazed at what big smiles kids will get reading these!)
  • Each child is allowed and encouraged to have a water bottle at their desk to use when they are thirsty.
  • Comfy clothes since the kids will be seated at the computers for long stretches of time.

Parents,

Apparently, my e-mail list has gotten a little goofed up and I missed a large chunk of parents with our daily e-mail the last 2 days.  Sorry about that.  I hope I have it corrected now.  Sorry also if you are getting this e-mail as a duplicate.  I've merged the info in the e-mails for the last 2 days into one.

-Mr. Pransky

Testing. A letter went home Tuesday explaining the testing students will complete in about two weeks.  Students will take tests for ELA (Reading and Language), Math, and Social Studies.

Bike Hike Expectations.  Your child should have a letter explaining the expectations for participation in Bike Hike on May 20.  Please read and discuss this letter with your child and return the signature portion at the bottom.

Fast changes - Students have been learning about fast changes of the earth in Science.  They are currently learning about volcanoes.  Today Miss Schnee did the classic science experiment using baking soda and vinegar to create a volcano simulation.  It was really fun to watch!  See the attached videos.
