Team Mindcrafters Daily Update - 5/16/17

Parents,

200% Pizza Party.  Students who doubled their reading goal this quarter in AR will earn a pizza party on Tuesday, May 23.  Please contact Mrs. Dressel if you are interested in donating drinks or a healthy snack to go along with the pizza.

Bike Hike.  This is Friday!   See image below for how the helmet should fit your child.  Please also make sure your child rides his/her bike this week in order to practice.  Be sure the bike is in good working condition.  Check that brakes are working and that tires need are fully inflated.   We are looking forward to a fun day!

Toy Take Apart.  We are learning about electrical circuits in science class this week. We will do a station activity called Toy Take-Apart, during which the students will take apart simple battery-operated children's toys to learn more about how they work. If you have any toys that you can donate for this project, it would be greatly appreciated. The toys will be disassembled and will likely not be usable after the project, so please send only toys that your family does not want anymore.  Please send any old, battery-operated toys in any time this week.  If you are not able to send any toys, that's okay. Toys will be provided for those who do not bring them from home.

Instrument try outs - Last chance for anyone interested!!  Following our presentation by the sixth grade band, you should have received information about an opportunity for your child to try out some instruments that are part of band next year.  Starting tomorrow, students who completed the online permission form will have a chance to do this during the day at school.  There is no commitment to band!  Please fill out the form if you are interested:  http://awbands.com/join/

Team Mindcrafters Daily Update

First of all, happy Mother's Day to all of the moms out there!  I hope you are having a great day and are being showered with love from your family.

As we wind down the year, I wanted to send an e-mail with some information about some upcoming activities at school.

Bike Hike.  Bike hike is this Friday, May 19.  All students will need a properly fitted helmet and a bike in good working condition for the day.  It is a great idea to get your child out to practice riding sometime this week.  Students will have a very active day which includes a 10 mile round trip bike ride, a nature hike, a geocaching adventure, and P.E. activities with Mr. McAfee.

Toy Take Apart.
We are learning about electrical circuits in science class this week. Toys will be provided for those who do not bring them from home.

Mastering 150.  From the first math class of the year, I told students that we would work toward mastering all 150 objectives in Accelerated Math.  As we approach the end of the year, most students are approaching or have surpassed this goal.  For students who achieve this goal, I will have a couple rewards for them:
  • AM Practices assigned for homework will be optional for those students starting this week.  These students can continue to work toward mastering 6th grade objectives for homework if they'd like, but it won't be required.
  • On Tues, May 23rd, we will be having a Technology reward day for all students who have mastered all 150 skills.  These students will be allowed to bring in devices from home and to play school appropriate games of their choice.  Those who do not bring their own devices may use school iPads to play games.
Hope everyone is able to enjoy this beautiful weekend!

Team Mindcrafters Daily Update - 5-10-17

Parents,

Jo Jo's Pizza- I was contacted by the manager of JoJo's and she told me she would have the assistant manager deliver the pizzas on Friday.  Thanks to the many parents who offered to pick it up for us!

Mrs. Dressel's classroom composite pictures - It was just pointed out to me that class composite pictures have been given out in other classrooms.  I was unaware of this, and got to the bottom of the issue with our classroom.  It turns out it is my fault...  I went home on picture day as one of my own children was sick, and no one thought again about it until now. They are using my picture from last year, and hopefully composites will be coming home soon.  Sorry for the delay.

Parents,

Jo Jo's Pizza- The manager from JoJo's said she is not available to deliver the pizzas on Friday, but she's still getting back to me about that.  It is possible that we may have to have our pizza party on another day.  I will let you know as soon as I find out for sure.  Just exploring options: are there any parents from Mr. Pransky's homeroom who could pick up and deliver the pizzas at 11:40?  Are there any parents who would be willing to donate drinks?

Team Mindcrafters Daily Update 5-3-17

Parents,

Fort Meigs Field Trip - Unfortunately we were unable to reschedule our field trip tomorrow.  Fortunately, they do have indoor options for us, so WE WILL BE GOING TOMORROW!  If the weather permits (light rain is okay), we would like to still travel to some of the outdoor exhibits, so please make sure your child is dressed accordingly.  We also will still take sack lunches, but will bring them back to eat here at school if needed.  Parent volunteers who sent in money can meet us outside of Fort Meigs at 9:45 (the tour starts at 10).  The tour ends at 12:00, and we will either eat at the picnic tables outside at that time, or return to school depending on the weather.

Ms. Ryan's last day.  Today was Ms. Ryan's last day.  We wish her good luck in her new home and in finding a teaching job!
