Team Mindcrafters Weekly Update 5-28-18

Parents,

This will be the last Weekly Update email this year!  It is truly amazing how quickly the year went by.  We would like to thank you for all of your support this year.  The students have shown tremendous growth and are ready for their transition to Fallen Timbers next year.  Know that our support does not end on the last day.  You and your child are always welcome to reach out if you need help, or just to say hello.

Fun Fest - Our field day portion is from 1-3 tomorrow.  The weather is supposed to be very warm again.  Please make sure that your child is dressed to spend a lot of time outside, is wearing tennis shoes, and has sunscreen on!  A labeled water bottle is also highly recommended!  The only lunch option tomorrow is hot dog, so your child may want to pack a lunch if they don't prefer that option.

200% Pizza Party - Congratulations to Joshua B, Donny, Julia, Amelia, Dean, Kacee, Grace, Roya, Brody, and Collin for reaching over 200% of their AR goal for the fourth quarter.  I will be treating them to a pizza lunch on Wednesday.  Students should bring their own drink for that day.

Technology party.  Students who reached the 150 objective goal in Math will be having a technology party on Wednesday.  As long as it is okay with you for them to bring, students may bring in devices from home such as iPods and tablets. Students will need to get approval from me about specific games that they will play.    Students who do not have a device to bring in may play a game like Minecraft on the ipads or Rocket League for x-box on the smartboard.  Students who have not reached this goal will play a special Kahoot review game or will work to get to 150 objectives during this time.

There will be no homework in these final days!

Team Mindcrafters Weekly Update 5-21-18

Parents,

Calling all books! - Please encourage your child to go through his/her bedroom to look for any books that belong to the school.  Quite a few library books are still checked out, and many books from our classroom libraries gather in students' homes throughout the year as well.

Bike Hike - A few reminders for Friday.

  • CLOTHING - Thankfully the weather will be cooler.  We'd recommend dressing with a removable top layer and short sleeves underneath.
  • BUG SPRAY AND SUNSCREEN - Long pants, as well as applying bug spray in the morning will help with ticks.  Sunscreen should also be applied at home before school.  We CANNOT provide or apply any bug spray or sunscreen to children.  If you feel that your child will need to reapply, you may send in a labeled bottle, but applying liberally in the morning should be good.
  • LUNCH - We will provide pop or water, as well as a snack when we arrive to the park.  Please make sure that your child has plenty of nutritious food for lunch to help them be active all day long.  Lunches need to be packed in a sack bag with his/her name.

Bike Hike Helmets.  We would like all students to bring in their helmets on Thursday so that we can check them.  Unless they are planning to ride their bike to school on Friday morning, helmets can be left here.

Team Mindcrafters Weekly Update

Parents,

Fallen Timbers Band - This is the last chance for your child to sign up for instrument fittings which start tomorrow.  In order for them to be able to do this, you MUST complete this online form: www.awbands.com/join

Math.  In Math, many students are finishing or have finished mastery of the 150 Math objectives in Accelerated Math.  For reaching this important milestone, they have earned a couple perks.  First, math homework will be optional for these students until the end of the year.  Second, all students who reach mastery of 150 objectives will earn a special technology party the last week of school.  For this, students will be allowed to bring in their own devices (with parent approval) and play games on them (with teacher approval).  Students can also simply use the devices available at school to play games as well.

Toy take apart.  We are learning about electrical circuits in science class. We will do an activity called Toy Take-Apart, during which the students will take apart simple battery-operated children's toys. If you have any toys that you can donate for this project, it would be greatly appreciated. The toys will be disassembled and probably will not be usable after the project, so please send only toys that your family does not want anymore.  (ie. small toys like you might get in Happy Meal)

Please send any old, battery-operated toys in by this Friday. If you are not able to send any toys, that's okay. Toys will be provided for those who do not bring them from home.

Bike Hike.  This exciting event is just around the corner.  Make sure your child is getting out and riding both to practice and to make sure that their bike is in good working condition.  A properly fitting bike helmet will be required for all riders.  If you cannot afford one for your child, please contact your child's homeroom teacher so we can make arrangements to get them one.

Weekly add-ons

A couple things I forgot to add to the weekly e-mail:

Jumanji - We have been doing an author study on Chris Van Allsburg.  This Friday we will be watching Jumanji, which is based on one of Van Allsburg's book.  This movie is rated PG. If you have any concerns about your child watching this movie, please send me an email

Field Trip Thursday - Students need to have a sack lunch packed for this day.  Chaperones can meet us outside of the Fort Meigs entrance just before 10 am. Please make sure students are dressed for the weather and an active day outside.

Team Mindcrafters Weekly Update - 4-30-18

Parents,

Testing is over and Spring appears to be here, finally. (Yeah!) As you can see from the events listed below, May is a very busy month full of fun activities to finish the year.

Please continue to stress with your child the importance of giving their best effort in all things up until the end of the year.  Students should continue to read nightly and complete homework just as they have done so well so far this year.  You can also help by making sure your child gets an appropriate night's rest each evening.  As spring sports kick in and the sun sets later, it can be easy for your child to get a little run down.  Thanks so much for all of your support in all things so far this year!  We are looking forward to a really exciting end of the school year!
