Team Mindcrafter Daily Update 12-20-13

It was a very fun week for Team Mindcrafter.  Today, students finished the day by rotating though all of the fourth grade classes and playing various holiday games.  Ask your child about it.

Mrs. Dressel and I would like to wish you and your family a very happy holiday.  We look forward to working with you and your child in 2014!

Social Studies.
Students' quiz results are posted here for you to review.  Mr. Kirwen or Mrs. Pokyrzwa's students are posted here.

Flubber.  As part of the students' gift from Mrs. Dressel and myself, each student received a baggie of "flubber."  The students wanted me to send the "recipe" for how to make this.  They should check their school e-mail for this.  A couple safety tips that I shared with the kids today regarding the flubber:
  • Do not eat the flubber
  • Don't let your  child play with it over the carpet or over fabric of any kind (ex. on a couch or in bed) as if it seeps into the fabric it won't come out.
  • Keep the flubber in a sealed baggie when not being used or it will dry out and seep into tiny cracks.
Reminders:
  • Need last minute Christmas ideas or stocking stuffers?  Many students need school supplies such as red marking pens, highlighters, pencils, eraser tops, etc...
  • Over the two week break, be sure your child continues to read a little each day.  We would love for all students to come back to school ready to take an AR test.

Have a great night,
Mrs. Dressel and Mr. Pransky

Team Mindcrafters Daily Update 12-19-13

Social Studies.  Yesterday a study guide went home for a test on Friday.  This will mostly cover the 4 factors of production, but will also include other economic terms.

Math.  Today students learned how to do lattice multiplication.  This is one of those math techniques that is "new" so I thought I'd send you a link to a video tutorial on how to do problems like this.  Your child should be able to do these independently, but if they need help you or your child can check this link here.

Team Mindcrafters Daily Update 12-13-13

Parents,

After a hectic, non-routine week, it was nice to have a relatively "regular" day today to end our week.  With the anticipation of Secret Santa, Treat Shop, snowstorms, and the upcoming holiday, the students had a lot of pent up excitement.

Twins Day.  Today was dress like a twin day.  Many students participated in this fun spirit day.  Mrs. Dressel and I agreed not to do this but somehow we ended up dressing alike by accident - three times!  See the class blog for some pictures of our twins (or, in some cases, triplets).

Treat Shop pictures.  Check the class blog for lots of great pictures from Treat Shop.  More will be posted sometime this weekend if we get time.  A couple of these pictures are slated to be posted in an upcoming Mirror article about the Treat Shop.

Science Test.  Students will be tested next week over Ch. 3 in their book on Wednesday.  I have sent students these e-mail links to Brainscape (flashcard practice) and for the practice test on Moodle.

Team Mindcrafters Daily Update 12-12-13

Parents,

Treat Shop.  Today Team Mindcrafters finished selling treats to Kindergarten and then bought treat themselves.  In all, our classes collected $284.18 in sales and donations.  (We'll send you a grade level total once we hear from the other 4th grade team on their sales.)  A huge "thank you" for all of the donated items.  Next week the students will give the money to Zion Church where they use the money to provide food and other needed supplies for families in need in the area.

Adaptations slideshow.  Tonight is the last chance for students to finish or make any revisions to their animal adaptations slideshow.  All students have received an e-mail with their graded rubric and have comments in some cases about things to fix or add.

Science Test.  Students will be tested next week over Ch. 3 in their book.  I have sent students an these e-mail links to Brainscape (flashcard practice) and the practice test on Moodle.

REMINDERS:
  • Friday is Spirit Day - Twin Day.  Students are encouraged to dress up like another student.
