Team Mindcrafters daily update, 4/30

Dear Parents,

There are many students who have fallen behind on their independent reading goals. This week marks midterm which means your child should be nearing 50% of their quarterly goal.  You can follow your child's progress using Home Connect.  You can also ask your child if they earned second recess each day.  If they did not, it is likely due to fact that they needed to stay in to catch up on their reading.

Reminders:
  • Return field trip permission slip
  • Keil's Greenhouse gift card sale (PC fundraiser)

Dear Parents,  I though I had better send you some explanation about the cultural heritage project.  This  is a project that all fourth graders do, not just my groups.  The first part, sending in your family's choice of country, was due yesterday, Monday the 27th.  Than you for staying way from Germany as we do not want 65 reports on the same country.  I realize this is a highly German area, but we all are a mixture of more cultures than one.
The next part is due by May 1, which is this Friday.  Since this falls out of the times I usually send homework (Thursday night) I thought you should get a message from me and be looking for the paper coming home today.  It is their list of items.
Each part of the project will be sent several days before it is due.  Be looking for further pieces that will help them get their project done without waiting until the last minute.  These pieces are the same as any other assignment.  If they are not handed in on time, a lost DOJO point will result.  Thank you for sharing something about your family.  Times for presentations will be assigned this week so you will know when they will need to be ready.

Dear Parents,

Sorry for the late e-mail today.  The students completed their last PARCC test today and worked really hard.  Mrs. Dressel provided ice cream this afternoon and we played some games as a reward for their good effort.  Thank you to the parents who donated ice cream toppings today.

Reminders for tomorrow

Parents,

Reward Party:  Tomorrow afternoon the students will be rewarded for their hard work in preparing for, and completing our State testing.  They earned an indoor game time, with ice cream!  I am providing ice cream for all of the students.  Thanks to those who volunteered to send in an item to help out.  We still could use some fun toppings for the students (M&M's, sprinkles, etc).  Feel free to just send something in with your child if you are willing to donate something.  Additionally, students are welcome to bring in a game to play with others during this time.  Students may bring in games that are easy to explain to others, and quick to play (not Monopoly for example).  I'd prefer they leave the electronics at home.  They get plenty of time with these games, and they typically don't promote interaction with others.

Testing this week. Tomorrow will be our only test this week. There will be only one more test after tomorrow! This will be for social studies, and likely be scheduled for the week of May 4.

We appreciate making sure your child is well rested and nourished on those days so they can come in ready to do their best on these tests.

Math Task Card Review

In Math today, we completed a Math review activity using task cards.  Many students in Mrs. Dressel's class finished these, but some students had a few problems left to do.  I told the students that I would send them home if they wanted to finish them for class dojo points or to review for their PARCC test tomorrow.

They are attached.  Mrs. Vanderstelt's class will do these tomorrow since we weren't able to switch because of testing today.  My homeroom will also have some time to finish them during our flex time.

Team Mindcrafters Daily Update 4-17-15

Tomorrow is the 9th annual 5k/1k!  This is a fun event, and the weather looks great for running.

It's not too late to participate.  Attached is the form, or you can register tomorrow.  I'd love to see as many students from our team run the 1k (if not the 5k).

The 5k starts at 8:30.  Come early if you need to register last minute.
The 1k starts at 9:30.  For students who wish to run this, and don't want a t-shirt, the cost is only $1.00!!!!

Hope to see many of you there:)

On a side note, I'm very happy with the big numbers at battleball again today.  Students are doing a great job with keeping up with reading, and keeping their Dojo percentages high.  We'd love for this to continue so that we can have an awesome end to the school year.

Supplies needed

Parents,

Please help make sure your child has the supplies needed here at school.  Many, many students are in need of glue sticks for Math class.  These students are falling behind when we have a project to glue because they are forced to wait for another student to finish gluing so they can borrow from them.  These students need a glue stick by Monday:

Vanderstelt: Alex H., Sire, Nicolle, (and several others which I forgot to write down)
Pransky: Kaden, Coy, James, Val, Logan, Keaton, Caleb, Cory, Grace, Emily
Dressel: Jorryn, Matt, Cullen, Eden, Haley, Riley, Parker

Many other students have been "borrowing" pencils, highlighters, red pens and other supplies from me for some time and may need a refresh of these as well.

Thanks so much for your help with this.
