First of all, happy Mother's Day to all of the moms out there! I hope you are having a great day and are being showered with love from your family.
As we wind down the year, I wanted to send an e-mail with some information about some upcoming activities at school.
Bike Hike. Bike hike is this Friday, May 19. All students will need a properly fitted helmet and a bike in good working condition for the day. It is a great idea to get your child out to practice riding sometime this week. Students will have a very active day which includes a 10 mile round trip bike ride, a nature hike, a geocaching adventure, and P.E. activities with Mr. McAfee.
Toy Take Apart. We are learning about electrical circuits in science class this week. We will do a station activity called Toy Take-Apart, during which the students will take apart simple battery-operated children's toys to learn more about how they work. If you have any toys that you can donate for this project, it would be greatly appreciated. The toys will be disassembled and will likely not be usable after the project, so please send only toys that your family does not want anymore. Please send any old, battery-operated toys in any time this week. If you are not able to send any toys, that's okay. Toys will be provided for those who do not bring them from home.
Mastering 150. From the first math class of the year, I told students that we would work toward mastering all 150 objectives in Accelerated Math. As we approach the end of the year, most students are approaching or have surpassed this goal. For students who achieve this goal, I will have a couple rewards for them:- AM Practices assigned for homework will be optional for those students starting this week. These students can continue to work toward mastering 6th grade objectives for homework if they'd like, but it won't be required.
- On Tues, May 23rd, we will be having a Technology reward day for all students who have mastered all 150 skills. These students will be allowed to bring in devices from home and to play school appropriate games of their choice. Those who do not bring their own devices may use school iPads to play games.
Hope everyone is able to enjoy this beautiful weekend!
