Team Mindcrafters Daily Updates - 8-31-16

Parents,

Tonight's math homework will have an online component. Students will watch a Learn Zillion video and complete 2 pages from a packet that go with the video.

There are a couple ways to watch the video. This is the way I would recommend is for your child to log in:
  1. First go to your child's google classroom account using their aw e-mail address and password. (Students have a label with this username and password on their blue folder and we have practiced numerous times at school on how to do this.)
  2. Click on Mr. Pransky's class and then click on Learn Zillion video #2. (Do not watch the other videos listed there as they are for another time, so be sure to click the right one!)
Another way to watch the video:
  1. Go LearnZillion.com
  2. Type in the Quick code listed on the paper: LZ524
  3. Sometimes after doing this, it will ask you to create and account or login.  If it does, your child can click to login with Google + and then use their aw e-mail and password mentioned above to log in.
Yet another option:
  • If you have a mobile device, both learn zillion and google classroom have free apps that make it even easier to watch these videos.
Reminders:
  • Back to school bash. Dressel/Pransky basket theme is "crafty" (paint, markers, crayons, paper, tape, stickers, ribbon, etc...)
  • Bring in an art shirt
  • Student Council forms due 9/7 (if interested)

Parents,

There is a free tutoring program available once a week by members of the nearby Zion church.  Right now we have about 5 slots left.  If you are interested in this for your child, please return the attached form as soon as possible. More information about this program is included in the flyer.

Team Mindcrafters Daily Update - 8/24/16

Parents,

We are starting to get into our routines a bit more here at school. It has been fun getting to know the students so far! Much of the first week or so of school is spent learning classroom procedures and expectations as well as systems for staying organized.

Since there was a snafu with our supply order, we just started receiving some student materials yesterday and some are still coming in. In my homeroom, some students had excess amounts of supplies that would not fit in their pencil pouch so I had them take a few items home to use.

.

Dine Out Night. Dine out night is Thursday, August 25 at Granite City. (See flyer in your child's take home materials.

Back to school bash. Information went home on this today. Once again, each classroom is donating items for a basket that will be raffled off. The Dressel/Pransky basket theme is "crafty" - paint, markers, crayons, paper, tape, stickers, ribbon, etc...

HOMEWORK:

Math: AM Practice (students should be able to do this independently)

Reading:
Goal for Friday = 11% of AR goal for quarter

Team Mindcrafters Daily Update - 8-23-16

Parents,

Early in the year there will be a big push to get all kids to mastery of their basic facts.  Here are some suggestions for practicing these Math skills with your child.

1) Flash cards - tried and true method. As you go through a deck, separate the fast and accurate from the ones that need to be practiced. The "needs to practice" stack will get smaller each day.

2)  Math Facts in a Flash - go to Home Connect, login with your child's AR password, and click on the Math tab to practice the same way your child will be tested at school.

3)  Print your own fact sheets or ask me and I can send some copies home.

4)  Math apps or websites - there are lots of good ones. (some sites to recommend: xtraMath.org, mathfactspro.com, mathplayground.com, or Math Magician )

HOMEWORK:

Math: Numeration activity (do activity with a parent and have signed)

Reading:
Goal for Friday = 11% of AR goal for quarter
