Team Mindcrafters Daily Update 11-30-15

Parents,

Secret Santa. This Friday, both our homerooms are scheduled to shop at Secret Santa. If your child is planning to shop, please make sure he/she has their list, money, and a bag to put their items in. Mrs. Dressel's class will shop from 10:55-11:25, and Mr. Pransky's class from 11:55-12:25.

Colder Weather - Many students were cold coming in from recess today. Please make sure that your child is bringing a coat, hat, and gloves to stay warm as the temperatures drop.

Animal Adaptations project. Please have your students work on their animal adaptation projects tonight. If they are finished already they will need to review the checklist on the bottom of their assignment description. I will be using that to determine the grade that they earn. We have been having fun playing various Math games to review skills here at school this week.  Here's one we did today on prime and composite numbers that your child might like to play.

Parents,

School supplies. Many students are needing school supplies replenished at this point. Please ask your child if they are in need of glue sticks, pencils, highlighters, red pens, etc...All these items are sold in the school store.

Animal Adaptations project. In class today, students began research on their animal adaptation project for Miss Schnee.  Tonight they should complete the first two slides of their animal adaptations presentation. The notes for this should be kept in their take home folder so we continue to work on it at school if we have time.  Many students had left this at home and didn't have anything to record their research today.  This was marked as -1 for unprepared in Class Dojo.

Conference Questionnaire.  Just a reminder that Mrs. Dressel and I would appreciate it if you would complete the lavender colored conference questionnaire that was sent home by this Thursday.  We know that our 10 minutes together will go quickly and want to be sure we address any questions or concerns that you have. (see attachment)

Social Studies - There will be a quiz on Friday over the economics terms we've learned so far.  A study guide was sent home today.  If you know that your child will not be in school on Friday, please let me know, and I will arrange for him/her to take the quiz on Thursday.

Math.  This week we have been working on multiplication concepts.  We have been working hard to learn multiples of 2's, 3's, 4's, 5.'s, 6's, 7's, 8's and 9's.  Please have your child continue to practice basic multiplication facts at home as we will be moving on to multiplication of greater numbers very soon.  Fast and accurate recall of basic facts is essential!

Veteran's Day - For those of you who have served, or are currently serving, in one of the armed forces, we want to take this opportunity to thank you for your service!  Students have an optional reading page on Veteran's Day that they can complete tonight for a bonus class dojo point.

Science Research Project.  Students will be doing a long term research project over animal adaptations.  This is part of a unit being taught by Miss Schnee.  Going home today is a description of this assignment, and students may begin when they'd like.  This final project will not be due until 12/2. Students will be given some class time to work on this, but most of it will be done at home.  You are welcome to email Miss Schnee with any questions you may have regarding this project.  eschnee@bgsu.edu

Math.  This week we began an new unit covering multiplication concepts.  We will be learning factors, products, multiples of numbers up to 100.  Students will also learn to identify prime and composite numbers up to 100.  Gaining speed and accuracy with basic facts will be the goal for the quarter as we will soon transition to multiplication of greater numbers.
