Team Mindcrafters Daily Update 5/ 28/ 15

Dear Parents,  Tomorrow is Bike Hike.  If you are bringing a bike, please put it behind the school in the bike rack where your child can find it easily when they get here.  This should be done well before busses are coming in to avoid traffic tie-ups.
We fitted lots of helmets today.  We also talked about the wildlife the kids might see at the park.  Everyone is very excited, but please don't forget their sack lunch, sunscreen, a hat to prevent ticks during their time at the park, and bug spray.  It is supposed to be pretty warm, so cool clothing would be best.  They need to wear socks and their tennis shoes for safety.  Water, pop, and a snack are provided.
We have plenty of helpers to pick up bikes and riders who become too hot, ill, or their bikes have broken down.
If you have had to change your plan for getting the bike back home, please send a note with your child in the morning.  Phone calls will probably not get to us as we leave right after announcements.  Expect tired kids at the end of the day.
Congratulations to the last minute kids who got their AR points just in time.  We are all very happy they are joining everybody else on this fun 4th grade experience that they will remember for a long, long time.
:-)  Mary Beth V.

Team Mindcrafters Daily Update 5-26-15

Parents,

200% AR Pizza Reward - Students have until this Thursday to reach 200% of their 4th quarter AR goal to earn the pizza party.  Students who reach this goal will be treated to a pizza lunch with Mrs. Dressel on Thursday.

Bike Hike - Make sure bikes are working properly and are ready for Friday!  Students are asked to bring in their bike helmet by Thursday so that we can check them.  Students may leave their helmets at school, unless they are planning to ride their bike on Friday morning. Please take time to adjust your child's helmet before you send it in. See images below for proper fit.

Math Challenge Technology Party. We are planning a "Technology" party for this Thursday in Math class. To earn this party, students will need to have met their quarter goal for number of objectives mastered in Accelerated Math. This can be seen by looking at your child's AM TOPs report when they scan their homework. See image below.

At the technology party, we plan to play Minecraft and other collaborative, creative, and educational games. Students will be allowed to bring their own devices this day (with your permission) and will be allowed to play games approved by Mr. Pransky.

Reminders:
  • Bike Hike is Friday, May 29.
  • Return or purchase spring pictures

Parents,

Reading:  For the final three weeks of the school year, there will not be ELA sheets, reading logs, or spelling lists.  We are working on poetry and mythology right now, and will finish up the year with tall tale plays in small groups.  If you would prefer that your child still use a reading log, let me know and I can supply him/her with a slip to record nightly reading.

Spring Pictures:  Class composites are coming home for those students who get them.  If you still have Spring Pictures at home, please either send the pictures or send the payment for them.

Team Mindcrafters Daily Update 5-11-15

Parents,

Just a reminder that we have lots of permission slips that need to be turned in at this time of year. Please review the reminders below to be sure your child has returned them all.

Culture project. Your child should now have a due date for their culture project. (See Mrs. Vanderstelt's e-mail). Most will present this week.

Band "Fitting" tryout. Today, the students watched the 6th grade band perform at the high school and learned about some of the instruments that they might be able to play if they would like to join band. Some options are: flute, clarinet, trumpet, saxophone, percussion, trombone, and baritone. The brown tryout form should be signed and returned as soon possible if your child is interested in band. Mr. Giffin, the 6th grade band teacher, will be here tomorrow and Wednesday for any students who have this turned in.

Bike Hike permission slip. A green Bike Hike letter and permission slip went home today. Please read it carefully, fill out how your child will get home, sign and return.

Fun Fest. For those of you planning to volunteer for Fun Fest, please look at the schedule that was sent home today. Most of the 4th grade activities are in the afternoon so that would be the best time to be able to see your child and help with the various activities. If you have not signed the waiver for the inflatables for your child, that is included as well.

Reminders:
  • Sign and return band "fitting" tryout slip by Wednesday 5/13
  • Sign and return Bike Hike permission slip
  • Sign and return bike hike expectations letter
  • Fun Fest volunteer form (or at least waiver signed at bottom)
  • Return or purchase spring pictures
